Why is it important to replace smoke detectors?

Smoke detectors are used to detect smoke/fires, so when they are not working its important to fix them.

Every year in the united states, about 2,000 people lose their lives because of residential fires. The majority of fatal fires happen when families are asleep because they’re unaware there is a fire. When they realize that their house is on fire they do not have time to escape. The smoke and toxic gas spread faster than the actual flames people lose their lives faster inhaling all the toxic fumes. This can happen to anyone at any time, that is why it is important to do the following:

• Always have a family escape plan encase of a fire, it can save your lives!
•  Replace your smoke detector at least every 10 years or when it no longer works. If you have a wired smoke detector you can call your local electrician.
